Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEE), which is behind the popular Zee5 streaming platform, last May launched its Technology and Innovation Center in Bengaluru to build the metaverse network for the company with the help of AR-led delivery models, VR and NFT.
And yesterday, Zee integrated more than 100 graduates from the campus of cutting-edge technology institutes into its Center for Technology and Innovation.
The company, in a statement, said that Metaverse Induction was conducted by leveraging the Technology and Innovation Center’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and cutting-edge technology solutions: thus offering an immersive mixed reality experience to new recruits.
Amit Goenka, President – Digital Businesses & Platforms, Zee said, “We aim to provide intuitive experiences across all aspects of an individual’s consumption, creation and transactional journey, and the first metaverse induction program at Zee will not only help improve our employee experience, increasing innovation and productivity, but also the customer experience on multiple levels.”
Nitin Mittal, president of technology and data at Zee, said, “Our focus now remains on enabling Zee, leveraging technology to provide our consumers with extraordinary entertainment experiences.” Zee said it intends to enhance and expand its digital presence as it continues to serve the global community.
Zee calls his metaverse the ‘Zeeverse’ and it will start from this center in about 6 months. The company said there will be many types of NFTs on Zeeverse. Viewers will also be able to meet their favorite and big stars through Zeeverse, and will change the way media and entertainment are consumed.
Zeeverse will also have a role to play in creating and delivering content for Zee5. In May, Zee5 unveiled its 2022 content list with over 80 titles spanning Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi and Bengali. It includes 40+ original shows and 40+ movies in all genres. In June, Zee5 revealed a large list of Telugu content, and included 11 original series.
Zee said that in recent years there has been a significant transition in the viewing patterns of Indian audiences, who are now experiencing and consuming a diverse range of content on OTT platforms. There is an increase in South India for its content. So it’s shifting its focus there. The new center in Bangalore is part of this new thinking at the company.
Zee5 subscription is available for Rs. 599/year. Zee5 says it has over 5 lakh hours of on-demand content and over 160 live TV channels.
