You might think that the real-time audio chat market is already crowded. But communications platform Truecaller thinks there’s room for one more. He released a new app for private audio chats. Called Open Doors, the app is the result of the development work of its teams in India and Stockholm.
Truecaller is positioning Open Doors as ‘global, fun and impromptu private conversations’. The free app, which will be available globally (except China and Russia) on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, works flawlessly on both platforms.
“Our new Open Doors app was born out of a simple question – how can we help people make new connections without being intrusive? And that’s what we want to do: connect the world using the most natural form of communication, our voices,” said Nami Zarringhalam , director of strategy and co-founder of Truecaller.
How to get Open Doors on your phone
Existing Truecaller users can join Open Doors with just one tap. For non-Truecaller users, their respective phone numbers will be verified using a missed call or OTP.
The app needs two permissions: Contacts, so users can share Open Doors or connect with people in their contact list who also have Open Doors, and phone permission, which is required for audio chats. Participants in a conversation cannot see each other’s phone numbers. Users can join conversations when they receive a notification or by clicking on a link they receive. There is no limit to how many people participate in the conversation.
“As an Open Doors user, you are in full control at all times. You can start a conversation and leave at will,” Truecaller said. At launch, the app interface will be available in English, Hindi, Spanish, Latin and French, with more languages to be added later as per user demand.
Conversations are real-time and moderated by the community only, just like Truecaller. They are not stored anywhere and no one can listen without users knowing, the company said.
Based on user feedback, Truecaller intends to add more features to Open Doors. Truecaller is said to have over 300 million active users and wants to take advantage of that and increase Open Doors numbers.
