Major spoilers for Miss Marvel episode 6 follow. You have been warned.
The season finale of Ms Marvel has arrived on Disney Plus – and there’s a fair deal to digest after the sixth episode of the Marvel TV series.
Unsurprisingly, the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) roster of superheroes – well, if you discount Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder – climbed onto the plate and saved the day. She’s a superhero, after all, so it was bound to happen.
While Kamala and her New Jersey family/friends/community may enjoy the glow of a job well done to save the world, all is not rosy in MCU land. That’s because the end of episode 6 of Ms Marvel teases the arrival of one of two new superpowered groups – and one has ties to Kamala’s comic book origins. Meanwhile, her post-credits scene also set up The Marvels, aka the sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel and one of the Marvel movies slated to arrive in 2023.
Below, we’ll explain how Ms Marvel’s ending sets up the arrival of a new superhero team. We also speculate on what the Disney Plus show’s post-credits scene means for The Marvels storyline.

Ms Marvel Ultimate Explained: Is Ms Marvel a Mutant?
In short: yes, Kamala Khan is a mutant. The only problem, however, is that we don’t know what group of mutant superheroes to which she belongs in the MCU. Confused? Let’s explain.
A week after the main events of Episode 6, Kamala reunites with Nakia and Bruno for a final session before Bruno leaves for his summer internship at Caltech. Kamala meets the other two in an undisclosed part of New Jersey, with Nakia and Bruno arriving in Kamran’s souped-up car. Hey, he doesn’t need it anymore, so why not borrow it?
Anyway, before the trio head out for a Shawarma – a nice call back to 2012’s Marvel Avengers – Bruno pulls Kamala aside to deliver some surprising news.
After Kamala’s brother Aamir asked Bruno to check if he (or any other members of the Khan family) also have superpowers, Bruno performed more genetic testing on Kamala’s blood sample. Long story short: Kamala’s genes contain a mutation, meaning she’s not fully human. Unaware of the meaning of what Bruno tells her, Kamala treats the revelation as “just another label” before the trio departs for the night.
Interestingly, it wasn’t always the plan to include the word “mutation” in Ms Marvel. However, as revealed in a Marvel.com explainer (opens in new tab), lead writer Bisha K. Ali wrote this explanation to confirm why the rest of the Khan family would not be able to wield the bracelet’s powers if they wore it. Needless to say, the cast and crew are extremely excited to see how this “mutation” affects the MCU moving forward.
It’s understandable why Marvel doesn’t reveal what kind of genetic mutation Kamala has. That’s a subplot that could play out in The Marvels or, whisper it under your breath, maybe a second season of Ms Marvel. However, there are four possible explanations for what this mutation could be – and two of them relate to superhero groups we haven’t seen in the MCU yet.
The first possibility is that this genetic mutation simply has its roots in the history of the Khan family. We know that Kamala’s great-grandmother – Aisha – originates from the Noor dimension, belonging to the Djinn group known as Clan Destinos. Given that Kamala can use energy from the Noor dimension using Aisha’s bracelet, it’s plausible that her genetic mutation is only based on one of her ancestors hailing from an alternate reality.
However, there are three other possible explanations. First of all, Kamala could technically being the first MCU member of the X-Men, which would be a huge turnaround for the books. You know, if you discount Professor X from Earth 838 in Doctor Strange 2.
Kamala is not a member of this group of mutant superheroes in any Marvel comic book series. But there are two reasons why she could theoretically be the first instance of a mutant/X-Men appearing in the MCU. The first is obvious – she has a genetic mutation, so like every other X-Men in existence, she’s technically a mutant.
The second reason, though, is far more intriguing: eagle-eyed fans (or should it be eagle-eared fans?) much familiar theme plays while Bruno says the word “mutation”. This brief song is none other than the theme used in the beloved Marvel cartoon X-Men: The Animated Series. Coincidentally, Marvel Studios is currently developing a sequel series to that ’90s hit cartoon – X-Men ’97 – as part of its Phase 4, which gives more weight to the X-Men’s eventual arrival in the MCU.
So what are the two other options? On the one hand, Marvel Studios may be laying the groundwork for the arrival of the Inhumans in the MCU. In the comics, Kamala is an Inhuman – she gains her superpowers after being exposed to Terrigen Mist, a substance released by Black Bolt (another superpowered being who made a cameo in Doctor Strange 2) to unlock the Inhuman gene in any human who uses it. own. .
According to MCU insiders, as great phase (opens in new tab) and CineStealth (opens in new tab), The Marvels may explore some Inhuman elements as part of its plot. Let’s not spoil these stories here – you can read each leaker’s tweet if you truth I want to know about spoilers about The Marvels. But if Marvel Studios is gearing up to add the Inhumans to its growing roster of MCU heroes, given the comics’ ties to Kamala’s superhero origins, it would make sense to use Ms Marvel as a way to bring in the Inhumans. into the MCU universe.
Marvels won’t hit theaters until July 2023, so we have 12 months to wait before we find out if Kamala is an Inhuman, the MCU’s first mutant/X-Men, or if her mutation is simply Djinn, Clan Destine. , or based on Noor.
Speaking of Marvel superheroes, aside from that fourth possible mutation theory, however…
Ms Marvel End Credits Scene Explained: Hey Carol Danvers
The post-credits scene in the final episode of Ms Marvel is a short but significant one that ties the Disney Plus series to an upcoming MCU superhero movie.
Kamala – who seems to walk around wearing her superhero costume every day now, it seems – passes out in her bed after a long day of, well, studying and heroic antics. Her mother calls her, saying “this doesn’t sound like science homework” and as Kamala responds, her bracelet starts to light up. However, the glow emanating from it is unlike anything Kamala has ever seen before, which makes her sit up and pay attention to him.
As she gets out of bed, she swings her left arm, where the bracelet is. Rookie error. Kamala teleports to an unknown location, going through her locker as she does so.
That’s not the biggest shock of the scene, however. Viewers expect Kamala to emerge from the wreckage of her closet, but in her place, Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers – aka Captain Marvel – appears. Carol looks shocked as she looks at her glowing purple hands before realizing she is in Kamala’s room. Though she doesn’t know this room belongs to Kamala – only that it’s the room of a serious superhero fan. And a Captain Marvel at that.
“Oh no no no,” Carol says to herself before running away from the camera, presumably to find someone to tell her where she is. Expect Carol to meet the Khan family at the beginning of The Marvels, then!
What does this scene mean for The Marvels? For one, Kamala didn’t turn into Carol. There has been a lot of confusion and a lot of discussion about this post-final online. But as a Marvel.com article confirms (opens in new tab)the pair simply switched places.
The end credits scene also intrinsically links Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan together, which is sure to be a big deal for the latter as she adores the former. It looks like the duo will want to find a way to get back to their original locations – Kamala to be reunited with her family and Carol to get back to whatever superhero she was doing before the warping.
It’s also possible that Kamala’s powers turn out to be descended from the Kree, which is our fourth mutation theory (we said we’d come to this). Remember, Carol got her powers from the Kree-developed light speed engine – not the Tesseract himself – in her first MCU movie, which made her a Kree-Human hybrid. If she is able to switch places with Kamala (based on the latter’s bracelet), it could mean that Kamala is also a Kree-Human hybrid. Okay, that would dispel theories about her being an Inhuman or X-Men in the MCU, but it would explain why she switched places with Carol in the post-credits scene of Episode 6 of Ms Marvel.
Finally, Carol may have discovered the second bracelet that Aisha, Kamran’s mother Najma, and the other members of Clan Destine were looking for during a flashback sequence in Episode 3. Kamala, it’s plausible that she acquired it without knowing her real ones. capabilities. Carol was last seen in Shang-Chi’s post-credits scene, where she went in search of other magical items such as the Ten Rings. Maybe she found the other bracelet and activated it not knowing what would happen? We think it’s a possibility.
Again, we have a long wait on our hands before we know for sure. In the meantime, read our content for other upcoming MCU projects, including She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
